The Pen is Drunk
I purchased the pen to scan numbers only. That should be simple enough. NOT! The accuracy rate for the pen was about 20%. I could have made better hand written notes drunk. In fact, if the pen acts like a drunk. Not only cannot not copy numbers, just simple numbers, the software staggers like a bar fly constantly missing the stool, but foolish enough not to know it. So my pen, after a generous probationary period and attempts to rehabilitate is being returned to send never to come back to this house again under any circumstance. It is a very bad pen! I truly lost my patience trying to make this work. The designers need to go back to the drawing board sober this time.

make sure jack is plugged in ALL THE WAY
Okay, I know it sounds dumb and obvious, but if you can't get the pen to communicate with your PC, make sure to push the cable jack is pushed in completely. I have a film background and am used to using a variety of cables and electronic devices, so when I read the advice in the help section of the desktop program about checking the jack and the batteries I thought yeah, yeah I'm not an idiot. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and desktop program twice from the disk and once from the wizcomtech.com downloadable files. I was convinced the program wasn't installed properly (especially because of the little white and blue icon in the top left of the title bar which usually shows up when a program is not responding). Finally I looked at the help file again and tried pushing the jack in more. It went "click" and all was well from there. Believe me, even if you're conviced the jack is in all the way, push it in harder until you hear a distinct "click."

Also, to reiterate what others have said, the innacurate text recognition is almost always due to scanning too fast or not holding the pen at the appropriate angle. When I get a line that scans poorly, if I scan it a second time and focus more on going slowly and holding the pen correctly nine times out of ten it comes out much better. I found especially that the ends of lines scanned badly because (without realizing it)as I crossed the page I would tilt the pen instead of moving my hand.

This product isn't perfect and will make some errors no matter what you do, but it is far better and more useful than I had hoped. It is better than other text recognition software I've used and so convenient for taking notes for graduate school from library books I can't write in. I also use a lot of primary documents from the early modern period and earlier and the pen can actually occasionally read some of that text as well. I didn't really intend to use it for that type of work anyway and I wouldn't recommend it for text pre 19th/18th century or so, but it's nice to know it may be possible in some instances. It also sometimes has trouble reading modern typefaces that are in italics or a bit large. It's a bit hit or miss if you go outside standard typefaces, but for most body text of books and magazines it's great.

Unusable and Worthless
Even after the supposed training of the pen, out of 20 scans it did not completely recognize the text once. It is very position sensitive and the technology needs to be significantly improved.

Review of WizCom WSP1000P Line Scaner
I am using the to take notes for my various on-line and research projects. While the results are about 90% correct, I can usually fill in the blanks, and it is much much better than hand written notes. I would recommend this product to any student or researcher that does not need to take entire pages of verbatim notes. For what I am using it for it is well worth the money.

Please, people, take these negative reviews seriously
This product is almost impossible to configure with your PC unless you have a PhD in computer science. NOTHING works out of the box...I've tried to follow some of the suggestions that other reviewers have posted with no result. There is little if any documentation that comes with the pen and I'm not sure that I'm getting great reliability with the scanning device itself presuming if I can ever figure out how to upload the scanned information into Word.

I rarely resort to using all caps in any message I write BUT DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE BUY THIS PRODUCT! The posted technical advice from users should have been the warning to me not to buy this and the negative reviews are accurate. This product just doesn't seem to work well and in 2008 if an intelligent but not professional computer user cannot get an electronic product to work out-of-the-box, or close to it, then the device is very badly designed...and this device IS very badly designed.

Business Class Product?
Overall a robust and reliable product, but:

Expect to spend another couple hundred dollars a year for support, either on a plan or at ~ per call.

Doesn't run on Linux. That's a huge downfall for a business product. If you want the stability of running on a dedicated Windows server instead of a user machine, it'll cost you an additional user license for the server in addition to each user.

Windows 7 Problems
Despite the enclosure with the scanner saying to go to the HP website for Windows 7 drivers, the drivers didn't yet exist for this particular scanner. The technician at HP (via email) said to install the Vista drivers that came with the scanner. This does work but not all functions work properly. I have been told (again via email) that at some point Windows 7 drivers will be available for the product. I'm still waiting!

In spite of the driver issues, the scanner works fine for my application. It could be a little faster, but it is so much better speed wise than my previous scanner that it is not a problem.

The only other possible drawback with this scanner is that it is rather large. It is a full 5 inches longer and 2 inches wider than my old 8 1/2 x 11 scanner. If you have the desk space, though. the size is not a problem.

easy to use!
So far I am pleased with the performance of the HP Scanjet G4010 I just purchased.
It gets the job done and quietly.

Win 7 ready does not mean what you may think
I bought this scanner directly from HP because of positive reviews on their site and the fact that it said it was ready for Windows 7. Unfortunately, this did not mean it actually came with the drivers for Win 7. I went to the website and all that you get is a listing of HP products that will be getting Win 7 drivers in the future.

I called HP tech support and they told me to install the Vista drivers that came on the disc onto my computer using Vista emulation mode. That didn't work either and rather then waste time trying to figure out how to make this work on my laptop, I sent it back to HP.

I connected it to my old Macbook though and it worked great, unfortunately as I don't use that Macbook much having the scanner work there doesn't do me much good.

It has a pretty big footprint, and is a bit loud when scanning. I used it primarily for documents but tried out a few pictures to see how they would come out, and they seemed fine. I didn't have use for the slide scanning feature so I can't comment on that. It has buttons on the lid that you can press to initiate the scan, or you can do it from the software interface.

Again, had HP had Win 7 drivers I would have kept this since it seemed to be a perfectly fine machine when connected to my Mac.

Does not work with Win7
Bought this G4010 on Dec 28 2009, got it on 04 Jan 2010, tried to install it and there are no Win7 drivers. HP unwilling to say when they will be released. Contacted "tech support" no help, have written email am waiting for the answer. If it is not resolved within 10-days it is going back to Amazon

Beware: Scanner will not work with Window 7 at this time
I have had this scanner over a month and it works well with Window XP. However, the comptuter that I want to run it on has the new Windows 7 software. HP website say's that they have a driver in the works that will allow it to work with Windows 7 but they are taking their time making it available. I am going to give them another week and if no driver, I am going to take it back to Staples.

Reviews far too old?
I have a very early version of MYOB for the Mac from the early 1990s. It worked very well once I learned its intricacies, which took some time. However I did not keep up with the new versions and now I can't use it at all with an Intel Mac so am looking into upgrading. The reviews presently are from 2005. Doesn't anyone have anything to say about it in 2009? I'm a photographer and educator, one man band, so a simple program is what I want. Quickbooks? Quicken? MYOB?

Can't do reports in current year??????
I have used this product for 3 years now and it has been great for me. I just need simple accounting software. Today I have found a major problem. I want to print a profit and Loss statement for this year, 2007. For some reason in reports it won't change the year to the current one and won't let you do it either. What do I do? Buy the new version or change software? I'm frustrated with this software right now.

Simple and Stable
After having given up on QuickBooks Pro 2006 for the Mac because I found the product dangerously unstable and Tech Support seriously flawed, I switched to MYOB FirstEdge.

It was a good decision. The program is simple, stable and gets the job done. Setup was easy and while it lacks some of the features of a higher-end package, it is everything I need to run my professional practice.

I did buy a simple service plan--3 months--just in case I encountered a problem. During setup I did have one question. My call to Tech Support took ten minutes. The phone was answered quickly, the staffer was knowledgeable and polite and quickly resolved my issue. Similar calls to QuickBooks paid Tech Support took hours and the people at the end seemed to know less about the program than I did.

All-in-all I am very pleased with this program. All accounting software is somewhat complicated but this one is pretty clear and intuitive.

Good for what it is
I'm a little confused by some of the negative reviews. MYOB offers a trial download. You can sample it to see if it provides what you're after.

FirstEdge is fairly simple, but provides the basics required for a very small business. It's worked well for my simple needs and does what it claims to do. Check the feature list and make sure you're covered.

This product is great !
Read all the reviews - was a little skeptical but bought it anyway because MYOB is highly recommended by other Mac users - especially the Mac specialists and Apple retail consultants. MYOB's been developing for the Mac longer than anyone else including Quicken.

The interface has a diagram at each point in the product so I know what I can do in each section. Also the install and set-up is easy. The overall product was easy to use - did not have to call technical support - the online help system worked for me - plus there's a guide in the box. After a couple of sales invoices I was able to get the hang of it - and everythings linked - all my customer information gets saved including payments and deposits.

For the money spent on my business accounting - this was a good low cost investment to get me over the basics. Definitely better than trying to use a larger product like Quickbooks - which was way more than I needed or continuing to use Excel. I say give yourself at least 20 days of actually using the product before deciding whether or not its working. MYOB takes the product back within 30 days so there's no risk.

Excellent Performance
This scanner is a top notch performer. I have scanned 300 slides so far and the quality of the scans is amazing. These slides ranged in age from 55 to 35 years old and if the color in the slide had faded the Epson's color enhancing capability restored the color almost to original quality. I have then viewed those slides on a 42 inch flat screen (using Apple TV) and the images are crisp, clear and full color. If you have slides/negatives/pictures to scan and quality is important, this is the scanner to buy.Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Color Scanner

Beautiful scans and easy to use on a Mac
I won't repeat the many useful comments except to say that I agree the film holders are flimsy, (but they haven't broken yet), the SW is weird (both Epson and bundled Silverfast especially is impossible for me to understand) and a few other minor complaints. I use a Macbook Pro with 10.5 and it has been nearly bug free, and there was no real installation needed, just a visit to the Epson website.

But these novice user items aside, the visual quality of scans of black and white and color negatives from 35mm, 6X4.5, 6X6, 6X7, 6X9 and 6X12, as well as 4X5, are superb. The tonal gradients are well preserved, there is little noise, and no artifacts at all that I can see. Dust reduction works! Resolution is great and you can select what resolution and file size you want after framing your subject.

I think the important thing about this scanner is what it does for analog photography. It really puts you back in the driver's seat with film cameras and all their versatility once again, but without the need to ever make a print again (except via file transfer!). It's well worth it. Check out [...] for some recent scans. Hint: Check dates around December 2009 and January 2010.

It has tempted me to get into 8X10! Think of the implications of this kind of easy-to-use, superior quality scan capability for under $[...] has to photographers.

Good Commercial Quality Scanner
I do graphic design and from time to time you need a scanner to get a job done. A normal photo scanner wont do when it needs to be printed on a press. This has super high resolution DPI and scans very fast, even on the maximum DPI setting. All the software that comes with it is nice too. Not really needed if you have photoshop but still nice if you dont. The Text Reader software is handy too. Only used it a couple of times and it has been 100% in reading text perfectly. The only complaint is that it has a small surface area. 9x12 i believe. But for the price, and quality you cant beat it.

Great scanner - but takes time to get best results
I have had this scanner for a year now and have scanned thousands of negatives and pictures with it. There is no doubt it can create amazing results, but it will take time for most people to maximize the output.

The included Epson software is quite simple and quite good. It will give any starter reasonable results at first. However, for more demanding scans - especially negative scans - it would be a mistake to rely on the included Epson software. In stead you will need to move on to Silverfast or another 3.rd party software.

I use Silverfast SE Archive Suit with HDRi. It uses multiscanning to draw most color from your scans and also scans in infrared light to eliminate dust etc. much faster - and better - than anything ICE can achieve. In fact this combo (Epson 750 & Silverfast SE Archive Suit with HDRi) is so strong that it is hard to believe the difference until you have tried it yourself. The downside? Well, first of all Silverfast is not easy to learn to use. Also, the price for the Archive Suit is high - even when you upgrade. Is it worth it? You bet - if you scan negatives!

Bottom line, can work for everyone, but is really a product for those that are looking at high end scans and are willing to invest time in learning how to use it for the best results. So not for everyone. Four stars since you need an external software upgrade to get the amazing results of its infra red scan ability. Only regret: that I have a lot of early scans that could be much better now that I know much more about scanning.

Fine piece of equipment!
This scanner is everything that a person needs to restore old photos, scan new photos. It does everything. One must take the time to read the instructions, can be time consuming, but so worth it! I have been able to restore old family photos to new! Water stains, gone, cracks in photos, gone, fuzzy edges, gone. You will not be disappointed in this purchase!

WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. I THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE A TOOL ON IT SIMILAR TO OUTLOOK. I HAD NO USE FOR IT.

Office Suite Faulty Conversions
I bought this package at a retailer for .99. Attempting to install, I found that the installation instructions on the package do not indicate that the user should note an ID code on the disk before inserting it, and once the disk is in the drive you can't access it, So When the Installation software asked for an ID, I looked all over the packaging for the ID and couldn't find any. As a result I had to abort installation and take out the disk, where I finally found the ID. Then the ID would not work after repeated tries, and tech help had to send me an alternate, which finally worked. On the positive side, tech help responded promptly.

However Office Suite did not adequately convert my MS Word 2003 file
but created irremediable distortions. I bought the suite to convert this file to PDF. I looked up PDF in their help index and found only a reference to exporting an image to PDF. I looked in the file menu and found that in fact you can export text files to PDF. But since the file conversion from MS Word is faulty in the first place, I could not go ahead with the PDF export.

Since the program won't convert Word files adequately and therefore I can't use the pdf export feature, this software is of no use to me. Of course I could have re-entered the entire Word file into the Office Suite word processor, but given the other problems I suspect the PDF conversion is probably primitive as well. This is a potentially good product at a very reasonable price, but it needs to go back to the drawing board before being released again.

Good Program
I was very pleased with this. I use Excel at work all of the time & found this to be very close. So for the price, I was thrilled.

Needs Adobe Twain Plugin to work with Adobe Photoshop CS4
This scanner is very good but beware Photoshop CS4 users, if you want to scan directly from Photoshop CS4 you will need to install adobe's Twain plugin - this driver works with any Twain based scanner.
Open your CS4 DVD and go to
"Goodies" / "Plug-Ins" / "Import-Export"

The TWAIN.plugin is in the Import-Export folder. Put that into Adobe Photoshop CS4/Plug-ins/Import-Export and you are golden. Restart Photoshop if its already open.

For those of you that can't find your CS4 DVD you can download it from adobe support section as well. [...]

Other than this software issue the scanner is fast, quite and scan beautifully.

Converting slides with Canoscan 5600
Just bought this scanner to convert many boxes of old slides from the 1960's and 1970's. Slides are converting easily and look great. Software included separates pcitures and slides into individual images. I only wish it would scan more than 4 at a time. This process will take some time.

Performed as advertised - Good Product
I have only used the scanner to scan 35 mm slides (so far about 150), but it's done a great job. The quality of the generated images is very good and the process doesn't take too long. I can scan and save about 50 slides (give or take a few) in an hour. The software was easy to load and the scanner operation is straightforward. I would definitely recommend it for home use.

Better Than Expected
I was nervous buying this to scan 750 plus slides. There is a cover on the inside lid, which has to be removed in order to scan slides. The instructions mention nothing about this, and I had to call customer service. The scan quality at 4800 dpi is very good, and it seemed to be very accurate in colour and tone. Most of the slide scanning services only will scan up to about 600 dpi, and I would like to have the option for a high resolution print, so I scanned each slide at the highest setting. This took several weeks. However, after 30 scans or so, it would fill up the memory and I would have to quit the application and restart it losing the recent scans and having to rescan. So, I would scan about 28 and then save them, quit the app, restart it and do 28 more. However, about 28 is all I could do per day, because the repetition and waiting drove me nuts. I would find other things to do for 20 minutes and return to scan more, often losing track of time and what I was doing. But it saved me a lot of money over professional scanning services at 50 cents to a dollar per slide.

The photo scanning is okay, but with either method, a lot of retouching was needed as there was a shine to the photo, and a lot of flaws with the slides. I'm not sure what was dust on the glass bed and what wasn't. iphoto will take the flaws out, and I won't want to print each photo anyway, but will touch up on an individual basis. I haven't tried the negative scanning option yet, and I'm not sure what to expect. Overall, it worked fine, and I achieved what I wanted.

Excellent with the new IMAC. Converted all old pics to digital
I love this scanner. I used it with the new IMAC and used the scanner software then brought the pics into iphoto. I had over a thousand pics that I converted to digital and didnt have a single problem. The nice this is you can place 4 4x6 pics on the screen and scan once but iphoto placed them in pics individually. So this project only took a 1/4th of the time. It did the job well. would buy again and highly recommend.

It will last you for years
We bought our Brother 770 fax machine when I started my business in 1998 and it is still going strong! I have actually purchased a few updated machines over the years. They keep breaking down, and we pull out the trusty 770 once again. This is the only piece of office equipment we have not had to replace in ten years. No frills, but boy is it reliable.

Faxes being sent frequently jam
This thing can't pull a piece of paper strait through no matter what. One side always pulls faster than the other, so you eventually have the paper 1) being printed at an angle and 2) jamming unless you're there to try to guide it through.

Secondly, the cartridges are outrageously expensive. I still use this machine because I only get/send a fax every now and then, but if I were a regular faxer, I'd trash this Brother in a second. The company should have recalled all of this model.

Constant paper jamming problems- beware
I've had this model fax for about 4 years now and have been plagued by paper jamming--very frustrating. I found it worked best with 24 lb paper but still I need a more dependable fax and cannot deal with having to clear paper jams every couple of days.

Because of this I'm giving this fax away for free and getting the HP 1040.

Good features for the price
I'm not a fax wiz, but the quick reference chart got me through the initial setup of this machine. For incoming faxes it has worked flawlessly.... outgoing faxes can sometimes be a challenge. However, (as with most machines) if you line the paper up right, and don't attempt to put anything less than an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper in, you should have problem free faxing and/or copying. The roll-type printing cartridge does seem to disappear quickly, and it can be challenging to find replacement cartridges unless you live next to a big office supply store (tip: if you don't require crisp incoming faxes,... you can re-roll the cartridge back and re-use it at least one more time). :) Overall: for the price and small space it takes up, I believe it is worth getting. However, if you don't want to go through a small learning curve figuring out how to use it properly, pass it up.

HORRIBLE!! Shopping for its replacement!
I have this fax machine now - and I am looking for a replacement to it...and here I stumple across it. I highly recommend you DO NOT buy it! We have a horrible time faxing or copying more than one page..the rollers like to eat up and jam the paper.

Helpful in some ways, not in others
Though the software does take you through the Plan writing process in steps, I prefer to have the entire document right in front of me as I'm writing, so I created mine in Word. While I didn't care for the blank template offered in this software, the myriad of business and marketing plan examples were extremely helpful in getting me through my first attempt at composing a Plan of my own. You have your own library of successful business plans to reference.

Business Plan Headache
The product is cumbersome, very difficult to work with. I ended up using a sample Plan and making modifications, which I could have done for a fraction of the cost. The questions don't produce answers that make it easy to create a good plan. The cut and paste feature is no help. The thought process to create a plan is not smooth. I regret making the purchase.
